winter is here
Ok winter seems to have found us. Last night was the first time I was able to have a real fire in the stove. That part is nice, love a big fire just dont like having to cut and move the firewood but thats all of the same process I guess. Today at the shop have the outside wood and oil burner going. We have to get started on building a new one for inside soon. Also need to get the furnace at home cleaned and ready for backup duty. Had to order some propane last week and am missing right arm for what that cost. That does make cutting wood seem easier when compairing it to those prices. We did have our first official snow last night but not much of anything stuck around. Hope for another mild winter but who knows. Ok back to work. | | Monday, October 24th, 2005 | | 11:35 am |
does seem to be winter
Long but reasonably productive weekend. Got the granny bushes shaped for another year, furnace cleaned, a/c covered and back storm door window in. Of course being the lady she is, still wouldnt turn furnace on till "Tim" (her trusted plumber) had checked and cleaned the furnace burner. She called this morning and was shivering but was still afraid to turn it on. After much talking, I managed to get her to turn up the thermostat and low and behold it didnt blow up. Heading there for lunch soon and if she hadnt I would have anyway. Jake and I got two pickups of wood cut with nothing exciteing except the damn tree I cut down fell the wrong way and made it harder to get cut up. While we were cutting that down, had an audience of cows. Had to keep shooing them away for fear of the tree falling on them. Wood cutting is not too bad this time of year. Not too thrilled about it when its very cold or lots of snow on the ground. I also got some weed eating done around the places that I worry about grass fires, like under the propane tank. Anyway, tired today and thank goodness nothing too much to run me around too much this morning. Ok back to work. Current Mood: tired | | Wednesday, October 19th, 2005 | | 3:27 pm |
seems like winter coming
Today north wind, temp only down around 60 but feels much colder. Looks like winter is on the way. Went to Iowa for trailers the last two weekends but will be in town this weekend. Time to do a bunch of pre-winter stuff for the Mama. She wants the furnace cleaned, driveway cracks sealed and front bushes trimmed. And lord only knows what else is on her mind. She seems these days to be always angry and sad about one thing or another. I learned a long time ago not to try to argue with her or to try to point out the positive things in her life. Seems more like a no win situation all the time. Besides doing the Mama things, would like to get the first load of firewood for the winter cut. And still need to get back to working on the downstairs bedroom. Poor Gayle takes about 10 minutes to make it up the stairs every night. She does seem to be recovering from the surgery ever so slowly and I do wonder if this problem will be back with her until she looses lots of weight. This whole aging thing is a bunch of crap. Ok enough whining for today. Current Mood: blah | | Tuesday, October 4th, 2005 | | 2:56 pm |
wheat planted
Got wheat all planted on sunday the second of Oct. We have had several showers since and it seems the wind is determined to blow every day 30 or 40 mph. Still trying to recoop from the weekend, those long days riding the old john deere takes lots out of you. Monday started normally here, as soon as I got to the shop there was a person waiting on me with a broken trailer. Finally got it finished this morning. Hopefully the rest of the week will go smoothly. Current Mood: okay | | Saturday, October 1st, 2005 | | 9:53 pm |
beginning
Ok been curious about these things and now will try and see if anything ever comes to mind to write down. Gayle came home from hospital today, seems to be doing ok, will keep fingers crossed for a few days hoping no relapse. Good thing Jake is here, since I spent the afternoon and evening in the field harrowing in the fertlizer that was spread this morning. When I ordered the fertlizer the man said you know with the nitrogen fertlizer you need to get it worked in within 24 hours. So love those pressure times. Anyway, they spread it this morning and I got it worked in before 7. So I won. Tomorow am going to try to get the wheat planted then will just have to wait and see how it turns out. Growing wheat around here is always just a product of the weather. Of course that could be said of farming anything anywhere. Next two weekends will be off to Iowa picking up trailers. Those always seem to get done in bunches, and sometimes they take forever to get built. Some of these were ordered in march I think. Ok starting to ramble and having a need for chocolate, so gonna go make brownies. Current Mood: tired |
